Fred Durst Society and Austin Solid Waste Services Department
Posted by Shazy on Wednesday, February 16, 2011
Public voting in the City Of Austin’s campaign to rename the Solid Waste Services Department ends in less than 24 hours. As such, this is the final day for the forces of the Internet to rally their snarky troops behind “Fred Durst Society Of The Humanities And Arts,” the campaign’s leading vote-getter and a fairly convincing argument against completely open forms of democracy. It’ll be fun to watch FDSFHA ride the lolz into the sunset—even if there’s no way city officials will approve that name—but The A.V. Club can’t help but think that there’s something inappropriate about an outsider being named the figurehead/mascot for the Austinites handling Austinites’ garbage, recycling, yard trimmings, and household hazardous waste. So here are our suggestions for a more Austin-centric candidate that, given the proper degree of SEO and blog support, could knock the red, backwards crown off Durst’s head by day’s end.
