Lowe's to Donate $1 Million to Red Cross Relief Efforts in Japan
(NYSE: LOW) announced today the company will donate $1 million to support the Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami relief effort that is assisting victims in Japan. Lowes.com and Lowe's Canada website, Lowes.ca, will also serve as donation points for customers who wish to contribute to the American Red Cross and Canadian Red Cross, making it convenient for people who want to join Lowe's in making a difference.

"We are truly grateful for Lowe's generosity to help those affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan," said Gail McGovern, president and CEO of the American Red Cross. "Lowe's support is enabling the Red Cross to provide critical assistance and essential relief items in this time of urgent need." The Red Cross already has committed $10 million to assist the people of Japan.

Local volunteers are handing out relief items, including more than 65,000 blankets. More than 100 medical teams, made up of more than 700 people, are providing assistance in the most affected areas through mobile medical clinics.


Trained nurses with the Japanese Red Cross also are offering psychosocial support to traumatized survivors.

"There are millions of people who have been affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and the devastation resulting from this monumental disaster," said Robert A. Niblock, Lowe's chairman and CEO. "As a longtime partner of the Red Cross, we're proud to support recovery efforts in Japan and we encourage our caring customers and employees to join our efforts to help those affected by the earthquake." Since partnering with the Red Cross in 1999, Lowe's and its customers have contributed more than $20 million for disaster relief.
